Tarot Ethics for Readers

Ethical tarot reading is less about sounding certain and more about being clear about what tarot can and cannot responsibly do.

Consent

Read only for people who have agreed to participate. Do not treat a third party's private thoughts as knowable facts.

Agency

Offer possibilities, patterns, and questions—not commands or fixed outcomes.

Scope

Tarot is reflective and educational. It is not medical, legal, mental-health, or financial advice.

Privacy

Keep personal reading content private unless the client explicitly agrees to share it.

Uncertainty

Say what is uncertain. Do not turn a symbolic interpretation into a factual claim.

Boundaries

A reader can decline topics, pause a reading, or refer the client to an appropriate professional.

Money

Be clear about pricing and time. Do not use fear, curses, or escalating promises to pressure someone into spending more.

Closing

End with a summary, a grounded next step, and a reminder that the querent keeps the decision.

A practical rule

If a statement removes someone’s choice, privacy, or access to appropriate professional help, rewrite it.
